Day 4 Day trip to Positano, Praiano, Amalfi and Ravello.

You can hike along ancient trails through the idyllic coastal towns of Positano and Praiano. The rough terrain makes this a challenging hike, but rewards you with spectacular scenery as you complete the Walk of the Gods. Alternatively take a local bus and visit these cities. Ravello was made famous by Wagner and is filled with galleries, churches and streets to explore. Enjoy some great Italian gelato, sit on a patio and watch the world go by. Other places worth visiting are Agerola, Punta Campanella/Baia di Leranto and Grotta di Smeraldo.

Day 5 Day trip to Pompeii and Naples

In the morning take train to Pompeii. Train station is located in the center and will take you a few hundred yards from Pompeii main entrance. If you are visiting in summer, visit Pompeii early in the morning. It gets very hot during the day. Wear comfortable shoes. Totally buried by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79 and not re-discovered until the 17th century, Pompeii's antiquities offer you an unparalleled view of Roman life. Explore Pompeii's most significant sites and learn how its people lived, built homes, and conducted business. Stop at ancient cafeterias and bars, gardens and stores, baths and theaters. Cross in Roman crosswalks, marvel at the mosaics and frescoes and view plaster casts of the citizens of Pompeii as they died. Stand where the Gladiators trained and where they fought in the first Roman Amphitheater ever.

Then it's on to Naples, one of the world's most beautiful seaports. Originally named Neapolis (new city) by its Greek founders, Naples has been an important seaport since it was first conquered by Rome in the fourth century B.C. Italy's third largest city, it is dramatically situated between the Mediterranean Sea and Mount Vesuvius. Colorful and vibrant, cheerful but chaotic, Naples is a city of great contrasts.

You might want to have a quick bite such as Pizza Napolitana, before exploring the National Archeological Museum that features the priceless Farnese collection of ancient Roman statuary and the many colorful treasures removed from long buried Pompeii, Stabia, and Herculaneum.  Enjoy Maschio Angioino, the massive fortress protecting the harbor; Palazzo Reale; Piazza Plebiscito; the Galleria Umberto and Teatro San Carlo, where Enrico Caruso, the greatest tenor of all time, sang his love for his hometown.

Take a speed boat back to Sorento and enjoy the view of the coastline.

5 Days Itinerary based in Sorrento

Day 1/2 Sorrento

The Cliffside location of Sorrento makes it one of the most romantic places in Italy. The views of the bay of Naples are extraordinary and the city is made for walking. Start at the Piazza Sant Antonino and visit the Church of St. Antonino and the cloister below the altar.  Stroll along the little alleys or the town’s main street Corso Italia, and Via San Cesareo. They are lined with picturesque shops offering food and handcrafts. Shop for coral, cameos, embroidered blouses, and Capodimonte ceramics.
Relax in the Public gardens or just see Italians at play at Dominova Seat on Via S. Cesario. It's a private but outdoor men's club, where you can watch from the street as locals test their skill at card games. It offers priceless insight into the minds of Italian men! Take a walk along the old city wall in Piazza Antiche Mura, originally built by the Greeks. Sip a cappuccino in one of many cafes.

Charming towns line the lovely Amalfi Coast, and you may want to take a local bus to Saint Agata sui due Golfi.  This town is perched high on the top of the Sorrentine Peninsula, commanding impressive views of the Bay of Naples, the Amalfi Coast, the Gulf of Salerno, and the Isle of Capri. Try a typical dish salsicce e friarielli, in which sautéed rapini (broccoli rabe) is placed around a coil of Italian sausage. Don’t forget the Wine (Lacryma Christi, from the slopes of Mount Vesuvius; Greco di Tufo, a white wine; and a red Aglianico).
